Did you know ...
...that anxiety disorders are diagnosed in seven subcategories and are the most common mental illness in the world?
The seven subcategories of anxiety disorders include generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), panic disorder, social anxiety disorder, specific phobias, agoraphobia, separation anxiety disorder, and selective mutism. Due to the ongoing stress and the associated restrictions in everyday life, anxiety disorders have a high comorbidity with depression, which is why those affected suffer from both illnesses in most cases. The obvious symptoms of anxiety, such as nervous thoughts, sleep problems or physical restlessness, are the tip of the iceberg. However, deeper, less obvious aspects such as self-doubt, inner tension or social anxiety are often hidden underneath. It reminds us that we need to look deeper to understand the full range of anxiety disorders and respond appropriately.
