Did you know...
... that Sigmund Freud, in addition to his groundbreaking work on psychoanalysis, also suffered from serious health problems himself?
Sigmund Freud, Austrian neurologist and founder of psychoanalysis, revolutionized the understanding of the human psyche in the 20th century. Born in 1856, he had a significant influence on the development of psychological theories. Freud emphasized the importance of the unconscious, inner conflicts and traumatic experiences in shaping personality and behavior. His structural model with the id, ego and superego as well as concepts such as Freudian slips of the tongue and dream interpretation are key aspects of his teaching. The idea of the Oedipus complex and sexual theory shaped his work. Freud battled oral cancer for decades, forcing him to undergo over 30 surgeries. Despite his illness, he continued to work tirelessly and wrote some of his most significant works during this time. Freud influenced not only psychology, but also areas such as literature, art and culture. Criticized and admired, his influence on the understanding of the human psyche remains enduring. Freud died in London in 1939, but his legacy endures in the foundations of modern psychology.
